The cube will start moving as you move your mouse left and right. ( The Y axis points upwards the X and Z point to the side and front of your unit, respectively. To move it above ground, select the whole cube body, and right-click. You'll notice the cube is half-submerged in the ground. These are really useful, and worth getting used to. These four buttons also have keyboard shortcuts v, e, f, b. You'll notice clicking on one thing doesn't deselect the last thing to deselect, you'll have to click on the thing again, or press space to deselect everything.
